Ruth Holmstrom, 82

Warren - Ruth Holmstrom, 82, formerly of Strandquist, died Sunday, May 13, 2001 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Warren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 17, at 10 a.m. at Hegland Lutheran Church, rural Strandquist, with Rev. Raynard Huglen and Rev. Philip Rokke officiating. Debbie Boen will be the organist, and Lucille Haugen will be the soloist. Casketbearers will include Ruth's former students, Wally Larson, Don Holmstrom, Dean Holmstrom, Gale Frei, David Stusynski and Larry Dziengel. Interment will be in Hegland Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, May 16) from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held at the church for one hour prior to services.

Ruth Ingaborg Gunderson was born on September 16, 1918 at home in Nelson Park township of Marshall county, the daughter of Jacob and Ida (Quarnstrom) Gunderson. She was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church at rural Stephen and confirmed at Hegland Lutheran Church at rural Strandquist. She attended grade school at Woodside rural school and attended high school in Karlstad, graduating in 1936. After attending teachers training in Warren and Bemidji, Ruth taught at a rural Marshall county school for 16 years.

On June 28, 1944, she married Alvin Holmstrom at Hegland Lutheran Church. Ruth was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1969 and had been confined to a wheelchair since 1970. Since May 15, 1992, she had resided at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Warren.

She was Luther League president and Sunday school teacher and superintendent at Hegland and Bethesda Lutheran churches. She was also involved with Bible scripture memory for many years.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Alvin of Karlstad; a son, Roger (Caara) of Strandquist; a brother, Reuben (Amy) Gunderson of Strandquist; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. A00003B2000MY16
