Caroline
Rosella Miovac was born on November 19, 1916 in
Roseau County, the daughter of John Michael and
Tekla (Burnell) Miovac. She grew up in Roseau
County where she attended school through the eighth
grade. Following her education, Rose worked on a
farm.
In
March of 1936, she was united in marriage to Axel
Hilding Holmgren in Roseau. The couple farmed in
Roseau County with Rose caring for the farm when
Axel worked on construction in the summer and
logged during the winter. While living in Roseau,
the couple raised 11 children, and when their
youngest child was five years old, they moved to
Osakis. For several years, Rose worked for a
landscape nursery and also at Walleye Inn Supper
Club. In 1969, the family moved to Thief River
Falls where she worked at Arctic Cat for 11 years.
After Arctic Cat closed, Rose cared for the elderly
in their homes, mostly in the Roseau area. She
continued to work until reaching the age of 80 and
continued to drive until she was 84 years
old.
Rose
enjoyed picking blueberries, going for long drives,
and especially, spending time with family and
friends.
