Caroline Rosella Miovac was born on November 19, 1916 in Roseau County, the daughter of John Michael and Tekla (Burnell) Miovac. She grew up in Roseau County where she attended school through the eighth grade. Following her education, Rose worked on a farm.

In March of 1936, she was united in marriage to Axel Hilding Holmgren in Roseau. The couple farmed in Roseau County with Rose caring for the farm when Axel worked on construction in the summer and logged during the winter. While living in Roseau, the couple raised 11 children, and when their youngest child was five years old, they moved to Osakis. For several years, Rose worked for a landscape nursery and also at Walleye Inn Supper Club. In 1969, the family moved to Thief River Falls where she worked at Arctic Cat for 11 years. After Arctic Cat closed, Rose cared for the elderly in their homes, mostly in the Roseau area. She continued to work until reaching the age of 80 and continued to drive until she was 84 years old.

Rose enjoyed picking blueberries, going for long drives, and especially, spending time with family and friends.

Rose is survived by two sons, Gary (Jennifer) Holmgren of St. Hilaire and David Holmgren of Thief River Falls; five daughters, Sharon Rowley of Sharon, N.D., Karen (Bob) Sprynczynatyk of Bismarck, N.D., and Sandy (Paul) Meyer, Deb (Robert) Martell, and Wanda (Bill) Hillyer, all of Thief River Falls; 44 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Shirley) Miovac of California; four sisters, Phyllis Ten Broek of Mobridge, S.D., Marge Lofdahl of Duluth, and Lorraine Otto and Velma (Joe) Gates, both of Roseau; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband; three sons, Wayne, Darrell, and Gale; a daughter, Patsy Spiering; two sons-in-law, Robert Rowley and Dean Spiering; her parents; two grandchildren, Mariah Holmgren and Mark Groslie; four brothers, Duane, Van, Maynard, and a brother in infancy; and a sister, Irene Head.
