- Amy Hjelle, 78, died Saturday, March 16, 2002
at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River
Falls.
Funeral
services were held at 2
p.m
on Tuesday, March 19, at Zion Lutheran Church in
Viking with Rev. Luther Peterson officiating.
Gloria Ness was the organist, and the soloists were
Rev. Steven Hjelle and Marlys Olson. Casketbearers
were Clark Hjelle, Steve Hjelle, Byron Stokke,
Douglas Olson, Casey Kayser, Gerard Novak, Robert
Olson, Shaine Olson, Troy Hjelle, Chris Stokke,
Kevin Stokke, and Craig Stokke. Interment was in
Bjorsness Cemetery in New Folden Township of
Marshall County with Green Funeral Home of Thief
River Falls in charge of the
arrangements.
Amy
Lorraine Hjelle was born on March 6, 1924 in
Newfolden, the daughter of Oscar and Selma (Strand)
Hjelle. She was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith and attended school in Newfolden,
graduating from Newfolden High School in 1941. She
attended and graduated from teacher's training in
Warren and at Bemidji State College. Amy taught
elementary school for 36 year, teaching at rural
Marshall County schools and in Viking and Middle
River.
She
was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church,
WELCA, and the church circles. She also taught
Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many
years and served on the Viking City Council as
clerk for several years.
She
enjoyed helping her family and friends.
Amy
is survived by a brother, Virgil (Marville) Hjelle
of Viking; five sisters, Maxine Prickett of Middle
River, Vernace Stokke of Newfolden, Mae Hjelle and
June Hjelle, both of Thief River Falls, and Ardelle
Hjelle of Milbank, S.D.; and six nieces and
nephews, and their families.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers,
Roger and Orville Hjelle, and two brothers-in-law.
