Ark. - John Crews Hendrix, 85, died on Monday, July 21, 2003 at
Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Hunstville, Ark. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 21 at the First
Presbyterian Church in Huntsville with the Rev. James P. Fleming
officiating. Interment was in Fayetteville National
Cemetery.
John Crews Hendrix was born on May 4, 1918 in Fulton, Mo., the son of John Lee and Laura Estelle Fox Hendrix. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an officer in the United States Army. After his discharge, he moved to Red Lake Falls and owned a John Deere Implement dealership. He served on the Red Lake Falls City Council. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls, where he served as an elder. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Red Lake Falls. He moved to Huntsville in 1972 and was employed by B&B Implement. He served as a rural mail carrier until his retirement at age 72. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, where he served as an elder. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Hunstville. He enjoyed gardening, golf, reading, traveling and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice E. Johnson Hendrix; three sons, Mike (Linda) of Wasilla, Alaska, Bob of West Point, Va., and Tom of Langley, Wash.; two daughters, Mary (David) O'Neill of Virginia Beach, Va., and Laura (Jim) Samuel of College Station, Texas; eight grandchildren; one step-grandson; and one step-granddaughter.
John was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Demarais; a sister, Betty Jo Humphreys; and one niece.
