Earl Haugen, 69

North Branch - Earl Haugen, 69, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Friday, February 15, 2002 at the home of his sister in Grygla.

Haugen obit Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 18, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Paul Knutson officiating. Vanessa Anderson presented special music. Casketbearers were Lloyd Lund, Donald Thomas, Aaron Hanson, Larry Nerhus, Wade Sundberg, and Paul Sundberg. Interment was in Highlanding Cemetery in Highlanding Township of Pennington County.

Earl Duane Francis Haugen was born on March 26, 1932 at home in Deer Park Township of Pennington County, the son of Olaf and Gena (Nerhus) Haugen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea.

Earl was married to Doreen Wiener for 10 years and Ethel Ensrud for about 15 years. He had a variety of jobs, mostly in construction work. For several years, he was a crane operator and was awarded numerous safety awards along with an award for being one of the top ten crane operators in the nation. Employment locations included the missile sites in North Dakota as well as the large oil refinery in southern Minnesota where he was employed at the time of his retirement. He resided in various locations, including Grand Forks, and for the past several years, had resided in North Branch with his friend, Mary Pohl.

Earl was a member of the American Legion Post, VFW Post, and was a life member of the 49er's Union.

He enjoyed doing mechanical and body work on vehicles, hunting, and fishing.

Earl is survived by a daughter, Denise (Bill) Larson of Thief River Falls; a son, Duane Haugen of Thief River Falls; two grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Miller of Grygla and Verna Oly of Reno, Nev.; a half brother, Glen Asbjornson of Oklee, an uncle; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vernon Haugen; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A00003B2002FB20
