Myrtle S. Haug, 85

Grand Forks, N.D. - Myrtle S. Haug, 85, formerly of Fisher, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Kathy Haug of rural Fisher.

A funeral service will be held today (Wednesday, May 15) at 10:30 a.m. at Fisher Lutheran Church in Fisher with Rev. Carl E. Andersen officiating. Interment will be in Fisher Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral. Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home of Crookston is in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle Grove was born on November 18, 1916 at Climax, the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Hippe) Grove. She grew up on the family farm, was baptized and confirmed at Sand Hill Lutheran Church, and attended a country school. Myrtle then moved to Grand Forks, N.D. where she provided childcare and housekeeping services to a few local families.

On December 20, 1939, she was united in marriage to Orville N. Haug at Fisher. The couple resided in Fisher Township and farmed in the Fisher area. In 1973, they moved into a new home in Fisher and retired from farming in 1976. After Orville died on April 23, 1982, Myrtle continued to reside in her home in Fisher until l999 when she moved to Grand Forks.

She was a member of Fisher Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, served as WELCA treasurer for several years, and was active in the church's quilting group.

When Orville was alive, he and Myrtle enjoyed going dancing on Saturday nights, a tradition they continued for many years. She also enjoyed baking, working in her yard and flowerbeds, attracting hummingbirds to her feeders, crafts, painting, and especially, spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Gloria) Haug and Curtis (Kathy) Haug, both of Fisher; a daughter, Diane (Lee) Zitzer of Park Rapids; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nordean (Alice) Grove and Clifford (Doreen) Grove, both of Crookston; four sisters, Alice Weidemann and Eleanor Bracken, both of Oregon, Irene Morgan of Fertile, and Beatrice Swanson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Preceding Myrtle in death were her husband; a grandson, Ryan Zitzer; her parents; a sister, Hazel Betts; and four brothers, Chester, Arthur, Helmer, and Orris Grove. A00003B2002MY15
