Thief River Falls - Howard M. Hasby, 75, died on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Pastor John Wollenzien, officiating. Casket bearers include Don Scott, Don Langevin, Gary Dargon, Duane Opdahl, Gary Iverson and Tim Engelstad. Honorary casket bearers include family and friends. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and VFW Post 2793 of Thief River Falls. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday (today) from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a prayer service held at 7 p.m. at the Johnson Green Funeral Home and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Howard Morris Hasby was born on December 1, 1928 in Spring Brook Township, Marshall County, Minnesota the son of the late Henry and Martha (Mikkelson) Hasby. He and his family moved to Thief River Falls, where he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, and attended country school. On July 31, 1950 he entered the US Army, serving in Alaska. Howard was honorable discharged on July 30, 1953.

Howard was united in marriage to Alice Irene Cork on December 6, 1958. The couple lived in various places, before moving to St. Hilaire in 1966. After returning from the US Army he had several farming jobs, before driving beer truck for Grain Belt Beer Company. He then went on to work for Land O'Lakes for 18 years, before going to L.B. Hartz, where he retired after 22 years in 1991. He then moved to Thief River Falls in 1994, where he has resided since.

He enjoyed farming, playing his guitar, talking about the "Old Times" and his "Army Days". He especially loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his children, Tim Hasby of Fisher, Dale Hasby of St. Hilaire, Lisa Benton (special friend Mike Puetz) of Thief River Falls, Lila (Bruce) Boe of Oklahoma City, Okla., Missy Iverson (special friend Dave Wilson) of St. Hilaire, Denise (John) Wayman of Everett, Wash.; daughter-in-law Sharon Hasby of St. Hilaire; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen Flaten of Omaha, Neb., Joyce Hasby of St. Hilaire, Esther Vik of Thief River Falls, Ivy (Fran) Miller of Iron Ridge, Wis., Shirley Maurer of Staples, Judy Cameron of Red Lake Falls; brothers Donald (Doris) Hasby of Hartford, Wis., Joe (Lynette) Hasby of Thief River Falls, Gordy Hasby of Park River, N.D. and two uncles Inar Mikkelson of Thief River Falls and Eddie Mikkelson of Cliffton, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice; one son Mark; one grandchild; his parents; one sister, Cora Stigen; one brother, Burton Hasby; and brothers-in-law John Maurer, Ernest Stigen and Donald Cameron; sister-in-law Marion Cork; four aunts; five uncles; two nieces and three nephews.
