Lenora Harstad, 81

Thief River Falls - Lenora Harstad, 81, died on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Harstad, Lenora

Funera services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8 (today) at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Rev. Russ McDowell officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services. Jeanne Novacek will be the organist and a duet will be performed by Eunice Liedberg and Virgil Melo. Casketbearers will be Alison Leas, Kent Harstad, Mike Leas, Jessica Harstad, Kevin Harstad, Gary Harstad, Carol Sorenson, Greg Harstad, Kristi Evans, Jeffrey Harstad, Kathryn Harstad, Donn Harstad, Donna Harstad and Larry Harstad Jr. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden.

Lenora Ethlyn Sorenson was born on August 17, 1921, the daughter of Carl and Clara (Rierson) Sorenson in rural Holt. She attended country school and went to high school in Newfolden. She worked at the turkey plant and bakery in Thief River Falls before she was married.

One June 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Orville Harstad in Viking. She was the right-hand held on the family farm. Lenora could operate the machinery, grain dryer and any other thing that needed to be done on the farm. She also worked for about ten years at Arctic Cat from 1968 to 1978.

Lenora was active at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aide and the World Relief at Bethlehem. She also loved visiting with the neighbors and the neighbor kids.

Survivors include her children, Doyle (Marilyn) of Viking, Kameron (Kathryn) of East Grand Forks, Larry (Carole) of Merced, Calif., Lynnet (Gerald) Swaser of Newfolden and Calvin of Viking; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lester (Patty) Sorenson of Newfolden; three sisters-in-law; a daughter-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Lenora was preceded in death by her husband Orville; her parents; a son, Donn; two sisters, Audrey Sorenson and Ruth Highfill; and two brothers, Stanley and Milton Sorenson. A00003B2002JA08
