Harold Harder, 64

Thief River Falls - Harold Harder, 64, died Sunday, May 12, 2002 at his home in rural Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10 Harder obit a.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Silverton Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, with Rev. George Davis and Rev. Bob Dahlen officiating. Lois Brown was the organist, and Van Swanson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Don Longevan, Orlin Lerol, Bud Homme, Orlen Homme, Dave Stroh, and Stanley Hruby. Harold's nieces and nephews served as honorary casketbearers. Interment was in Silverton Cemetery in Silverton Township of Pennington County. Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Harold James Harder was born on February 11, 1938 in Thief River Falls, the son of Hans and Gladys (Nyland) Harder. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, attended a country school, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1956. Harold worked construction in Minneapolis for a short time before returning to Thief River Falls where he worked for area farmers.

In 1958, he entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. He returned to the area and worked at Detroiter Mobile Home in Red Lake Falls from 1961 to 1966. He began working as a distribution clerk at the post office in November of 1965. He retired due to health concerns in 1979.

On October 12, 1963, Harold was united in marriage to Betty Elaine Siebert in Thief River Falls. The couple resided and farmed in Silverton Township, raising beef cattle and small grains.

Harold was a member of Silverton Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Harold is survived by his wife, Betty; three brothers, Wayne (Donna) Harder, Steven Harder, and Greg (Penny) Harder, all of Thief River Falls; two sisters, Yvonne (Bob) Bidwell of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada, and Annette Harder of Thief River Falls; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Allen Harder; and a sister-in-law.
