Goodridge
- Marcella Hanson, 69, died on Sunday, March
21, 2004 at her home in rural Goodridge.
Funeral
services will be held at
2
p.m. on Friday, March 26 at Ekelund Lutheran Church
in rural Goodridge, with Rev. Robert Dahlen
officiating. Casket bearers include Benjamin
Hanson, Clifton Hanson, Andrew Hanson, Harlen
Iverson, Monte Haugen, Daryl Hamm and Doug
Horachek. Interment will be at Ekelund Cemetery in
Highlanding Township, Pennington County.
Visitation
will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday, March 25, at
Johnson-Green Funeral Service in Thief River Falls,
with a 7 p.m. prayer service and for one hour prior
to services at the church on Friday.
Marcella
Lucille Haugen was born April 16, 1934, a twin of
Marlyn, on the family farm in Deer Park Township,
Pennington County, the daughter of Harold and Mae
(Rodman) Haugen. She was baptized and confirmed at
Oak Park Lutheran Church. She grew up and attended
Pleasantview Country School, District 34 in Deer
Park Township and graduated from Lincoln High
School in 1952. She then went to work for Paint and
Glass in Thief River Falls.
On
June 13, 1953, Marcella was united in marriage to
Orlin Alfred Hanson at Oak Park Lutheran Church.
The couple made their home on the Hanson Family
farm in Highlanding Township of Pennington County,
where they have continued to farm. She ran every
piece of machinery on the farm.
Marcella
was a member of Ekelund Lutheran Church, where she
taught release time for Goodridge Lutheran Parish
for 42 years. She was active in the Woman's group
at church and served in many of the church offices.
She also served on the Pennington County Fair Board
for many years, where she ran the horticulture
exhibits. Marcella was the 4-H leader for Star 4-H
Club many years, and volunteered in 4-H for many
years helping her grandchildren. She belonged to
the Pennington County Extension Home Study Groups
and the Inter County Community Council, where she
served for 12 years.
Marcella
won the 4-H Alumni Award and she and her husband
were recognized as Red River Valley Farmers of the
year. She was active in the Farmers Union, where
she taught youth classes and also did bookwork at
the Goodridge Creamery for over 40 years.
She
enjoyed gardening, feeding birds, especially
hummingbirds. She loved quilting and made between
80-100 quilts for Lutheran World Relief every year.
She did lots of patchwork for her grandchildren,
loved to cook and was very well known for her
homemade bread. She was known for being an
excellent speller and her family used her as a
resource many times.
Survivors
include her husband, Orlin of Goodridge; sons, Dale
(Dawn) and Dean Hanson all of Goodridge; six
grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Violet
(Milan) Eliason of Coon Rapids, Clara (Vernon)
Iverson of Goodridge, Harvey (Joy) Haugen of
Hibbing, Marlyn (Doloris) Haugen of Oklee and
Bonnie Prigge of Gilbert; and many nieces and
nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; a nephew,
Mark Haugen; and brother-in-law, Charles Prigge.
