Thief
River Falls - Karen Hanson, 48, died on
Thursday, June 26, 2003 at her home in Thief River
Falls.
Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m on Wednesday, July
2 (today) at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in
Thief River Falls with the Rev. John Wollenzien
officiating. Honorary casketbearers will be Keren
Mapes, Kendra Hanson, Elaine Rue, Valerie Jorstad
and Lance Hanson. Visitation will be held for one
hour prior to services at the funeral home on
Wednesday.
Karen
Price was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 8,
1954, the daughter of Elsworth and Margaret
(Nyetrae) Price. She was raised a Jehovah's Witness
and was confirmed in the Jewish faith. She attended
school in Parma, Ohio, until moving to Arizona when
she was 10, where she attended Vail School in Vail,
Ariz. She graduated from Santa Rita High School and
went to Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz.,
where she became certified as a licensed practical
nurse. She was employed at the VA hospital in
Tucson. She worked as a nurse for 28 years in
Arizona and Minnesota. She worked at Oakland Park
Nursing Home in Thief River Falls and at Samaritan
Bethany Heights in Rochester, where she injured
herself in 1999 while working and has been disabled
since then. Her family came first, but she also
enjoyed cross-stitching and collecting patterns.
She enjoyed using her computer and the Internet
since she became disabled. Karen liked to keep up
to date on new nursing techniques and medical
breakthroughs. She was a member of nursing groups
and cross-stitch clubs, both locally and
internationally.
Karen
married Jeffrey F. Bloom. Later, she married Kent
Hanson, in 1984.
Survivors
include her husband, Kent of Thief River Falls;
three children, Lance Hanson of Tucson, Ariz.,
Keren Bloom (Daniel) Mapes of Spring Valley and
Kendra Hanson of Thief River Falls; two
grandchildren; her mother, Margaret Price of
Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, William Chipkesh of
Tucson, Ariz., and William Price Ebis of Fayette,
Tenn.; two sisters, Cassandra Peine of Thompson,
Ohio, and Nadine Rose of Madison, Ohio; and several
nieces and nephews.
Karen was
preceded in death by her father, Elsworth Price;
several aunts and uncles; and her grandparents.
