Harriet Hanson, 85

Divide, Colo. - Harriet Hanson, 85, died Friday, February 22, 2002 at her son's home in Divide, Colo.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at Hanson obit Abundant Life Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Wesley Langaas officiating. Bev Kays was the organist, and the soloist was Myra Hanson. Casketbearers were Steve Johnson, Nicholas Hanson, Mark Hanson, and Al Paggen. Serving as honorary casketbearers were her former students and others whose lives she had touched. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls With Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Harriet Erickson was born on July 27, 1916 in Fordville, N. Dak., the daughter of Alfred and Selma (Johnson) Erickson. She grew up in Lake Bronson an taught elementary school in Thief River Falls in the 1930's.

On October 24, 1940, Harriet was united in marriage to Gordon G. Hanson at Fergus Falls. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Hallock prior to moving to Thief River Falls where Harriet taught and served as a long-term substitute teacher at Knox and Northup elementary schools. She retired in the 1980's. Gordon died on January 14, 1984. Harriet resided at Summerfield Apartments in Thief River Falls until September of 2000 when she moved to Colorado to live near her son.

She was a member of Abundant Life Lutheran Church and enjoyed painting and gardening.

Harriet is survived by a son, Mark (Myra) Hanson of Divide, Colo.; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jeffry; her parents; and a sister, Adeline Johnson.
