Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Thursday, June 17 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, with Rev. Nancy Hanson officiating. Casket bearers include Burlin Jacobson, Kevin Sethre, Maynard Hjelle, Phil Dyrud, Morris Hansen and Merle Bjornrud. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Newfolden. Military honors will be provided by the Newfolden American Legion.

Visitation will be 9 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16 at Johnson-Green Funeral Service in Thief River Falls and 1:30 to 3 p.m., Thursday at the church in Newfolden.

Ernest Hanson was born February 11, 1918 in Newfolden, the son of Hartvig and Tena (Anderson) Hanson. He grew up and attended Goodwill Country School and worked for area farmers. From 1942-45, Ernest worked for Boeing Aircraft in San Diego, Calif. He served his country in the United States Navy from June 22, 1945 until his honorable discharge, May 1, 1946. He attained the rank of Seaman Second Class and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. He then returned to farm the Tollefsrud family farm.

On July 1, 1940, Ernest was united in marriage to Eunice Tollefsrud in Newfolden. The couple farmed near Newfolden and spent many winters in California. They bought the Tollefsrud family farm in 1943 and lived there many years. In 1987, Ernest and Eunice moved into Newfolden, where he resided until his death.

Ernest was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Newfolden. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his accordion and loved to play his harmonica.

Survivors include seven brothers and two sisters, John of Torrence, Calif., Clarence (Betty) of Fargo, N.D., Ralph (Devonna) of Mountain Iron, Earl (Janice) of Holt, Bennie (Lilly) of Newfolden, Floyd (De Etta) of Newfolden, Alfred (Dorothy) of Denver, Colo., Beulah (Merle) Bjornrud of Newfolden, Clara (Burlin) of Cottage Grove and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; parents; brothers, Carl and Arnie; sister, Adella; sister-in-law, Jeannie; brothers-in-law, Harry and Elmer Tollefsrud; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry and Mickey Tollefsrud.
