Elmer Hanson, 96

Strathcona - Elmer Hanson, 96, died Sunday, March 10, 2002 at the Greenbush Nursing Home in Greenbush.

Funeral services were held Hanson obit Thursday, March 14, at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Strathcona with Rev. Bob Ludwig officiating. Pat Ludwig was the organist, and the soloist was Vernon Lorenson. Casketbearers were Jule Hanson, Gale Hanson, Harvey Hanson, Kent Hanson, Craig Hanson, and Leonard Olson. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Strathcona with Collins Funeral Home of Greenbush in charge of the arrangements.

Elmer Teander Hanson was born on April 28, 1905 in Huss Township of Roseau County near Strathcona, the son of Gerhard and Tina (Hamness) Hanson. He grew up and attended school in the Strathcona community.

On November 7, 1928, Elmer was united in marriage to Mabel Olson at Hibbing. The couple farmed east of Strathcona for 14 years and in 1944, moved into Strathcona where they owned and operated Corner Café. They also started a service station business that they owned and operated for 25 years. After Mabel's death on December 11, 1984, Elmer continued to make his home in Strathcona. He moved to the Greenbush Nursing Home, where he had since resided, in 1992.

He was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church of Strathcona for many years. He was also active in the community and served on the city council for several years.

Elmer is survived by a sister, Hilda Erickson of Strathcona; two brothers, Thorvald "Tommy" (Virginia) of Strathcona and Melvin (Bonnie) of Roseau; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a sister, Melvina; and four brothers, Conrad, Alvin, Evan, and Melvin.
