Donald Hanson, 84

Thief River Falls - Donald Hanson, 84, died on Friday, August 23, 2002, at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 27 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Phyllis Dalager was the organist and Chris Cuppett was the soloist. Musical selections included "The Lord's Prayer" and "He Shall Feed His Flock." Casketbearers were Craig Lindahl, John Lindahl, Charles Hanson, Eldor Ornquist, Eugene Hanson and Robert Bredeson. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. "Taps" was performed by Rev. Robert Dahlen.

Donald Archie Hanson was born on June 28, 1918, the son of Andrew and Dora (Lindahl) Hanson in Spooner. He attended school in Baudette, Hazel and Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. Following high school he worked in Thief River Falls and Los Angeles, Calif. before entering the Army in 1943. He completed training in aircraft radio operation and instrument landing systems and served with the 70th Army Airways Communication system on Guam and Iwo Jima.

Following his dicharge from the Army in 1946, Donald moved to Detroit, Mich. where he worked in auto repair. He moved back to Thief River Falls in 1953 to open D&K Collision Service with his brother, Kermit. Donald and Kermit operated the shop until 1983.

Donald had a passion for learning. He enjoyed reading about history, geography, literature, science and current events. He had a life-long interest in art and left his family a collection of landscape paintings.

Survivors include one niece; one nephew; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hanson of Thief River Falls; and five cousins.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; three infant brothers; and his brother, Kermit.
