Clara Hanson, 91

Plummer - Clara Hanson, 91, died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer with Rev. Frank Ehling officiating. Marilyn Arness was the pianist, and Duane Arness was the soloist. Casketbearers were Michael Hanson, Bob Carriere, Jamie Carriere, Chad Braun, Neil Carriere, and Duane Nelson. Interment was in Emardville Cemetery in Emardville Township of Red Lake County. Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Clara Georgia Bakken was born on October 26, 1910 in Portland, N.D., the daughter of Ole and Johanna (Overn) Bakken. She grew up and attended school in Portland where she also worked at the café.

On February 15, 1930, Clara was united in marriage to John L. Hanson at Hillsboro, N.D. The couple moved to Plummer and raised their family. Clara worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls. John died on August 31, 1977, and in 1991, Clara moved to Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, Plummer American Legion Auxiliary, and Plummer Bowling League.

Clara enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, fishing, visiting, and especially, spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include two sons, Wallace (Bess) Hanson of Vacaville, Calif. and Vernon (Janis) Hanson of Mentor; two daughters, Jeanette (Bernard) Carriere-Remick of Red Lake Falls and Darlene Hanson of Bloomington; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Johnson of New Rockford, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Clara in death were her husband; her parents; seven brothers, Olaf, Lester, Otto, Arthur, Roy, George, and Alvin; and two sisters, Julia Bakken and Lilah Orsino. A00003B2002AP24
