Jan Hams, 49

Thief River Falls - Jan Hams, 49, died Monday, April 29, 2002 at her home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, at Zion Hams obit Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Ida Nordvall will be the organist, and Diane Johnson will be the soloist. Cindy Halloway will be the crossbearer. Casketbearers will include Noel Joppru, Wade Joppru, Tyson Treat, Michael Swanson, Timothy Benson, Kyle Evenson, Daniel Hoffart, and Shane McNatton. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service today (Wednesday, May 1) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Jan Denise Joppru was born on February 26, 1953 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Melvin and Mildred (Hagen) Joppru. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and attended schools in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1971. Following high school, she graduated from Northland Community College and the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

On June 6, 1971, Jan was united in marriage to Mitchell Alan Hams at Zion Lutheran Church. She worked at Joppru's Inc. and Digi-Key.

Jan was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she held the offices of president, vice president and secretary of the church council, and chair of the Christian Education board.

She enjoyed golf, bowling, camping at Cass Lake, and especially, spending time with family and friends.

Jan is survived by her husband, Mitch; a daughter, Melissa Hams of Thief River Falls; a son, Jonathan Hams of Greenbush; her mother, Mildred Joppru of Thief River Falls; three brothers, Donald (Kyle) Joppru, Dean (Pam) Joppru, and Rocky (Ann) Joppru, all of Thief River Falls; a sister, Barbara (Arlen) Overbye of Lakeville; and several nieces and nephews.

Her father and a brother, Terry Joppru, preceded her in death. A00003B2002MY01
