Lester Halvorson, 91

Coon Rapids - Lester Halvorson, 91, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and Kathy Larson was the soloist. Kermit Solem delivered the eulogy. Casketbearers were Larry Halvorson, Mark Halvorson, Stuart Solem and Gary Halvorson. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Lester Norman Halvorson was born on April 13, 1910 in Excel Township of Marshall County, the son of Halvor B. and Emma (Lee) Halvorson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and attended a country school near the Halvorson farm in Marshall County.

On May 20, 1933, Lester was united in marriage to Thelma Delia Myrom in Thief River Falls. The couple farmed in North Township for 60 years. Following retirement, Lester and Thelma spent several winters in a warmer climate area and in 1994, moved to Ham Lake.

Lester was a member of the Shorthorn Milking Society, Thief River Falls Saddle Club and Thief River Falls Curling Club. He also served as an officer in North Township for 35 years.

He enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, curling and riding snowmobile.

Lester is survived by his wife, Thelma of Ham Lake; a son, Lloyd (Carol) Halvorson of Mounds View; four grandchildren; two brothers, William of Phoenix and Harold of Thief River Falls; and four sisters, Rebecka Solem of Thief River Falls, Stella (Alfred) Bitzer of Williams; Bernice (Owen) Saupe of Anchorage, Alaska and Phyllis Styles of Littleton, Colo.

He was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, his parents, two sisters and a brother.
