Thief
River Falls - Kenneth Halldin, 87, died
Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at his home in Thief
River Falls.
Funeral
service were held Monday, Feb. 9, at Zion Lutheran
Church in Thief River Falls, with Reverend Gary
Johnson officiating. Military honors were provided
by Thief River Falls American Legion
Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 2793.
Kenneth
Halldin was born December 27, 1916, in Thief River
Falls, MN, the son of Otto and Ruth (Olein)
Halldin. He was baptized and confirmed into the
Lutheran Faith at Zion Lutheran Church. He grew up
and attended Northrup Elementary School and
graduated from Lincoln High School in 1934. He then
attended Dunwoody School in Minneapolis, where he
took up drafting and in the summers planted trees
for the State of Minnesota.
On
October 4, 1941, Kenneth was united in marriage to
Beth McLeod in St. Paul. In December of 1942,
Kenneth enlisted and served in the United States
Army for 3 years, during World War II. He worked
for the Soo Line Railroad for a short time prior to
his enlistment. Following his honorable discharge,
he returned to work for the Soo Line, retiring on
June 6, 1977.
Kenneth
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Thief River
Falls and also was involved in the Masons, Shriners
and Kiwanis. He enjoyed golfing, hunting,
especially spending time at the hunting shack by
Fourtown and for 15 years he wintered in Arizona
following his retirement.
Survivors
include his daughter, Patricia Nelson of Thief
River Falls; 10 grandchildren and 7 great
grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his wife, Beth; one son,
Stuart; and sister, Ione Ready.
