Elsa Haack, 83

Woodbury - Elsa "Elsie" Haack, 83, died Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, May 2) at Henry-Holcomb Funeral Home on Snelling Avenue in St. Paul.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, at St. Olaf Cemetery near Grygla with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Following services, lunch will be served at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Grygla. Arrangements are with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls and Henry-Holcomb Funeral Home of St. Paul.

Elsie Clare Haack was born on December 30, 1917 in Boone township of Beltrami county. She grew up and attended grade school near Baudette. As a young woman, she moved to Grygla where she met and married Leonard Haack on April 30, 1938. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Grygla for several years before moving to Thief River Falls in 1954. Elsie was a homemaker who spent her life caring for her family. She moved to Woodbury to be closer to her family and had resided at Woodbury Health Care Center since January of 1997.

Elsie was former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and had currently been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.

She enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening.

Elsa is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Hubert) Ivie of Oakdale and Carol (Robert) Chang of Honolulu, Hawaii; a son, Dale Bower of Minneapolis; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Violet O'Donnell of Lehigh Acres, Fla. and Lydia (Ben) Swanson of Moorhead; and her twin brother, Herbert of Las Vegas, Nev.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; a sister, Helen; and a brother, Edward.
