Lake Falls - Phyllis Guzek, 61, died Friday,
May 3, 2002 at United Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.
Mass
of Christian burial was
held
Tuesday, May 7, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic
Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy
officiating. Polly Beyer was the organist, and
special music was provided by St. Joseph's Church
Choir. Casketbearers were Larry Sorn, Mike Sorn,
Michael Stuckey, Scott Guzek, Jason Guzek,
Christopher Guzek, Greg Guzek, and Randy Stuckey,
and Martin Stuckey. Honorary casketbearers included
the Matzke family and Phyllis' coffee and
card-playing friends. Interment was in St. Joseph's
Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls with Johnson
Funeral Service in charge of the arrangements.
Phyllis
Jean Bishop was born on June 10, 1940 in West
Concord, the daughter of Clarence and Isabelle
(Jones) Bishop. She was raised and attended school
near Rochester, graduating from West Concord High
School in 1958. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital
in Rochester until 1963.
On
June 10, 1963, Phyllis was united in marriage to
Alton Joseph Guzek at St. Dorothy's Catholic Church
in Dorothy. The couple made their home in Red Lake
Falls where Phyllis did home day care and some
house cleaning. Alton died on February 7, 1999.
Phyllis
was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic
Church and its guild. She was also a member of the
American Legion Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters.
She
enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, flower
gardening, feeding the birds, baking, and
especially, spending time with her family.
Phyllis
is survived by three sons, Paul (special friend
Kathy Flickinger) Guzek of Brainerd, Tom (Lisa)
Guzek of Sauk Rapids, and Kevin Guzek of St. Cloud;
a daughter, Peggy Guzek of Thief River Falls; two
grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph Bishop and
Clayton (Mary Jane) Bishop, both of West Concord,
and Robert "Jake" (Pat) Bishop of Owatonna; a
sister, Ida Evert of Faribault; and many nieces and
nephews.
Preceding
her in death were her husband; parents; two
brothers, Wilbur Bishop and Wesley Karl Bishop in
infancy; and a sister, Mary Sorn.
