Gladys Gutterud, 90

Gutterud Obit

Thief River Falls - Gladys Gutterud, 90, died Friday, September 21, 2001 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 24, at Silver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, with Rev. Irvin Schmitke officiating. Carmen Gustafson was the organist, and the soloist was Grace Jorde. Special words were offered by Orlin Ness. Casketbearers included Perry Erickson, Mark Erickson, Gary Rosett, Wane Gutterud, Randy Rosett and Kelly Gutterud. Interment was in Silver Creek Cemetery with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys Catherine Sampson was born on September 11, 1911 in Adger Township of Marshall County, the daughter of Martin and Ingeberg (Brokke) Sampson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended school at Stump Lake and Busy Bee rural schools. She worked on area farms.

On October 17, 1931, Gladys was united in marriage to Oscar Gutterud at the Holt parsonage. The couple farmed in East Valley Township of Marshall County. Oscar died on December 31, 1985.

Gladys was a member of Silver Creek Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid.

She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and especially, making patchwork quilts and completed many during the time she resided at Valley Home.

Gladys is survived by a son, Lawrence Gutterud of Thief River Falls; three daughters, Dolores (Richard) Rosette of Embarrass, Marian Erickson of Plymouth and Wilma Baker of Hendrick, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Baker of Thief River Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sons, Elmer in 1987, Richard in 1983 and Leonard in 1964; two brothers, Ted Sampson and Harry Sampson; a sister, Pearl Amiot; and a daughter-in-law, Amy Gutterud. A00003B2001SP26
