Logan Graham, 85

Mankato - Logan "Max" Graham Jr., 85, died Friday, April 5, 2002 at Oaklawn Health Care in Mankato.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, April 9, at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home in Mankato with Chaplain Jim Dye officiating. Burial will take place today (Wednesday, April 10) in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Logan "Max" Graham Jr. was born on October 15, 1916 in Rochester, the son of Logan Sr. and Hattie (Marshall) Graham.

On December 31, 1934, Max married Marie Ellen Hanson in Rochester. Prior to World War II, he was a professional boxer, joined the Minnesota National Guard, and was a professional wrestler under the name Bobby O'Brien. During World War II, he served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific. He was honorably discharge in May of 1946.

Max was the police chief in Wells for 10 years and graduated from the FBI Police Academy in Quantico, Va. in 1954. He became a juvenile probation officer in Faribault and Martin counties for a year before being appointed to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. As a criminal investigator for 23 years, he served in Thief River Falls from 1958-1965 and 1970-1980 and Mankato from 1965-1970. He also served as an instructor and assistant director of state police schools and was an active member of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association. He retired in 1980 and resided at Springsteel Island in Warroad.

Max was a member of the VFW and Eagles in Thief River Falls and the Warroad American Legion.

He enjoyed competitive pistol shooting, making ammunition, fishing, making fishing lures, barbecuing, and collecting recipes.

Max is survived by a son, Gordon (Donna) of Mankato; four grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Lee (Shirley) of Rochester; and a sister, Margaret Eddy of Sikeston, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a brother. A00003B2002AP10
