Marcella Gonsorowski, 76

Newfolden - Marcella Gonsorowski, 76, died on Friday, August 23, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, in Thief River Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, August 26 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church with Father Tim McGee celebrating. Special music was provided by Cathy Erickson and Kenny Price. Casketbearers were Terry Potucek, Kenny Price, Curtis Carlson, Delray Larson, Cal Melgard and Ben Kleinwachter. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Minto, N.D.

Marcella Jarombek was born on June 20, 1926, the daughter of Leo and Lenora (Radonski) Jarombek in Ardoch, N.D. She was baptized at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Ardoch, N.D. and confirmed in Grand Forks, N.D. The family lived in various places. Marcella attended elementary school in Conway, N.D. and high school in Manvel, N.D., graduating from Manvel High School. Following high school, she attended Mayville State Teacher's College.

On June 30, 1947, Marcella was united in marriage to Leonard Gonsorowski at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks, N.D. She taught rural elementary school for three years, and owned and operated the Crow Bar in Manvel, N.D. The couple moved to Argyle where they farmed and later moved to Kilkenny where they owned Leonard's Place. The couple moved to Newfolden in 1963 and Marcella worked at Arctic Cat.

She enjoyed gardening, landscaping, being outdoors, reading and keeping up on political news. She was elected the first woman County Commissioner of Marshall County in 1980, a position she held for 16 years.

Survivors include children, Joseph of Minnetonka, Dexter (Karen) of Viking, Gwendolyn "Gwen" of Blaine; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leo (Arlene) Jarombek of New Brighton, Ted (Lucy) Jarombek and Raymond (Joyce) Jarombek, both of Grand Forks, N.D.; three sisters, Helen Jarombek of New Brighton, Irene Chisholm of Manvel, N.D. and Aneta (Corwin) Staus of Hastings; and several nieces and nephews.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Dorothy Jarombek and Lenora Dusek. A00003B2002AG28
