Erwin Gjerde, 78

Angus - Erwin "Ed" Gjerde, 78, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 in Fresno, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, at Melo Lutheran Church, rural Warren. Interment will be in Melo Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services with Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home of Warren in charge of the arrangements.

Erwin Gerald Gjerde was born on October 1, 1922 in Angus, the son of Ole and Maude (Peterson) Gjerde. He lived in the Angus area until he was 17 years old. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Erwin attended the University of Southern California where he received his bachelor of science degree in engineering. On February 27, 1947, he married Mary Steinberg of New York, N.Y. The couple lived in California where Erwin owned the Sur-Lite Corporation in southern California. He was a combustion engineer. Mary died on November 5, 1987. Erwin retired two years ago and had been living with his daughter, Andrea, in Fresno.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Eric (Pamela) Gjerde of Melbourne Beach, Fla. and Mark Lee (Karen) Gjerde of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Andrea Jo Gjerde of Fresno, Calif.; and two grandsons.

Erwin was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, Orval and Arthur. A00003B2000MA07
