Vernon Gilthvedt, 87

Thief River Falls - Vernon Gilthvedt, 87, formerly of Grygla, died Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at Gilthvedt, Vernon the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 7, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating. Joy Nordby was the organist and soloist. Casketbearers were Gary Gilthvedt, Ron Gilthvedt, Ron Carlson, Steve Anderson, Don Litstrom and Duane Gram. Interment was in Northwood Cemetery in Beltrami County with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Eric Vernon Gilthvedt was born on December 16, 1913 in Northwood Township of Beltrami County, the son of Erling and Bengta (Modin) Gilthvedt. He was baptized and confirmed at the Northwood church and attended a country school. For many years, he farmed with his father and brothers. After his brother, Russell, returned from the service, Vernon and Russell made their home in the Twin Cities for more than 30 years. Vernon worked for Thermal King and Westinghouse.

Vernon was a member of Northwood Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church of Grygla.

He enjoyed bowling, skiing, gardening, golfing, winter vacations and especially, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a brother, H. Russell of Thief River Falls; a sister, Daphnie Thieling of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eunice Burrell; and a brother, Earl. A00003B2001DC12
