Santa
Rosa, Calif. - Hjalmer "Gil" Gilbertson, 85,
formerly of Holt, died Saturday, September 20,
2003, at his home in Santa Rosa, Calif.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Santa
Rosa Memorial Park and Mortuary Chapel, with the
Rev. Tim Maloney officiating. Interment was in
Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
Hjalmer
"Gil" Gilbertson was born June 1, 1918 in Spring
Grove, the son of Christian and Helma (Ellingsen)
Gilbertson. He attended school and was confirmed in
Holt. Gil moved to San Francisco in
1939.
Gil
served in the U.S. Army from 1942-45. He was
stationed in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska during
World War II. After his tour of duty, he settled
back in the San Francisco area.
Gil
was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose
Lodge and the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed working
on cars and rebuilding lawn mowers. Gil was also a
very sharp pool player.
Survivors
include a sister-in-law, Olga Gilbertson of Holt;
nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; and
great great nieces and nephews.
Gil
was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edna
Gronderman and Lillian Sorenson; and brothers,
Lewis, Lyle and Clarence.
