John Geske, 92

Thief River Falls - John Geske, 92, died Friday, October 12, 2001 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at Geske Obit 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 16, at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Don Kirchner and Rev. Jeff Geske officiating. Elaine Idso was the organist. Casketbearers were John Geske, Mike Geske, Ken Geske, Richard Geske, Dale Laursen, Dan Glandorf and Spencer Larson Jr. Honorary casketbearers included staff from CNC and John's friends. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

John Gustav Geske was born on May 9, 1909 in Rocksbury Township of Pennington County, the son of Albert and Martha (Lautenbach) Geske. He was baptized on June 20, 1909 and confirmed on November 30, 1924 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. He attended Sunnyside School in Rocksbury Township.

On October 4, 1935, John was united in marriage to Edna Koop at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. He farmed all of his life in Pennington County. In the fall of 1977, John moved into Thief River Falls. Edna died in 1989. For the past six years, John had resided at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center.

John was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He also served on the Farmers' Telephone board and Sunnyside School board.

He enjoyed farming and watching his grandchildren grow up.

John is survived by a daughter, Elaine (Donald) Laursen of Thief River Falls; two sons, Leonard (Marge) Geske and Arnold (Linda) Geske, both of Thief River Falls; a sister, Marie Hogenson of Thief River Falls; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Harold; a daughter-in-law, Agnes; a grandson, Brian Geske; a brother, Elmer; and five sisters, Esther Koop, Alvina Harbott, Edith Harbott, Eleanor Falzone and Clara Erickson. A00003B2001OC17
