Furuseth, 75
Williston,
N.D. - Norman Furuseth, 75, died Sunday,
October 14, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center in
Williston, N.D.
Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today
(Wednesday, October 17) at First Lutheran Church in
Williston with Rev. Joel Westby officiating.
Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery with
Everson Funeral Home in charge of the
arrangements.
Norman
Victor Furuseth was born on April 20, 1926 in
Gully, the son of Peder and Johanna (Fladland)
Furuseth. He was raised and educated in Thief River
Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1944.
In 1952, he graduated from Valley City State
University with a BS degree in education, and he
received his masters degree in education from the
University of Northern Colorado in 1958.
Norman
was united in marriage to Cleo June Haraldson on
June 20, 1954 in Coteau, N.D.
He
served in the U.S. Navy and saw action in the South
Pacific in 1944 and 1945. From 1946 to 1948, he
worked for Land O'Lakes. Norman's career in
education was extensive as school administrator and
teacher from 1952 to 1986. He taught high school
government and economics in LaMoure, N.D., Roseau,
Williston, N.D, Albany, Ore., and Stuttgart,
Germany from 1952 to 1971, and was a vice-principal
at Stuttgart (Germany) American High School from
1971 to 1974 and an elementary supervisor in
Williston from 1974 until his retirement in
1986.
Norman
was a member of the Oktoberfest committee, Blue
Sage Riders Saddle Club, Gloria Dei Lutheran and
First Lutheran Churches of Williston, Disabled
American Veterans, Williston Park Board and Ecology
Park Formation.
As
a long-time hobby rancher, he raised cows, pigs,
geese and chickens, but his greatest interest was
in horses. He enjoyed reading, and was interested
in sports, excelling in high school and college
football and then coaching football and basketball
for many years. Norman was an avid Vikings fan. He
also enjoyed traveling and spending time with
people, especially his Williston
friends.
Survivors
include his wife, Cleo of Williston; two sons, Eric
of Minot and Peter (Laurie) of Williston; two
daughters, Beret (Doug) Hagen of Brooklyn Center
and Jenny of Minneapolis; three brothers, Leonard
(Milly) of Thief River Falls, and Jerry (Marlis)
and Howard of Lake; four sisters, Evelyn Walsh of
Seattle, Wash., Myrtle (Willard) Stromberg and
Nobelle Garr, both of Thief River Falls, and Ethel
(Jim) Walker of Bemidji; and four
grandchildren.
Norman
was preceded in death by his parents; a brother,
