Viola B. Fredericks, 85

Karlstad - Viola B. Fredericks, 85, died on Monday, July 29, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 5 at Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden with Rev. Gary Barrett officiating. Kirstin Olson was the organist and Judy Hogberg was the soloist. Special musical selections included "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Casketbearers were Phillip Waterworth, David Waterworth, Pat Collins, Keith Lindgren, Roger Gerholdt and Sharon Fredericks. Honorary casketbearers were all those who attended the service. Interment was in Karlstad Cemetery.

Viola Berneice Buss was born on March 18, 1917, the daughter of John and Layla (Miles) Buss, in Inkster, Mich. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Viola worked as a domestic for several years. On November 13, 1951, she was united in marriage to John Fredericks in Iowa. The couple resided in Arveson Township of Kittson County for several years, then moved to a farm in West Valley Township in Marshall County. John passed away on January 27, 1983. Viola continued to live on the farm for several years before moving to Oakwood Homes in Karlstad. She has resided at the Karlstad Healthcare Center for the past two months.

Survivors include one son, David (Jewelie) of Mitchellville, Iowa; three step-daughters, Mildred (Wayne) Tucker of Minonk, Ill., Bertha (Clifford) Ward of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Catherine Anderson of Madera, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie and Katherine; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers, John and Ernest.
