- Mary Fournier, 96, formerly of Red Lake
Falls, died on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Riverview
Nursing Home in Crookston.
Mass
of Christian Burial was
held
on Friday, July 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in
Red Lake Falls with the Rev. Tim Bushy officiating.
Casketbearers were all of Mary's nephews. Interment
was in St. Anthony Cemetery in
Terrebonne.
Mary
Louise Mercil was born in Garnes Township,
northeast of Oklee, on April 15, 1907, the daughter
of Joseph and Addie (LaFaire) Mercil. The family
moved to the Brooks area and she attended rural
country school and St. Joseph Academy.
In
1926, Mary was united in marriage to Wallace
Fournier in Terrebonne. The couple owned and
operated the Ada Cleaners for many years. They
moved to Crookston, where she worked for Homehealth
and in the 1980s, they moved to Red Lake Falls.
Wallace died in 1987 and Mary moved back to
Crookston, where she has since resided. She loved
crocheting and has made hundreds of afghans. Mary
also enjoyed sewing, repairing clothes, flowers,
gardening and going to the casino to visit. She was
a member of St. Ann's Society.
Survivors
include one brother, Wilfred (Gladys) Mercil of
Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many nieces and
nephews.
Mary
was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; her
parents; one son, Duane; four brothers, Leon,
Louis, Medore and Ralph Mercil; and two sisters,
Leah Jewitt and Rose Gagner.
