Napoleon Fontaine, 86

Duluth - Napoleon Ernest Fontaine, 86, formerly of Polk County, died on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at the Civic Crest Nursing Home in Duluth.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, September 7 at the Bell Brothers Funeral Home in Duluth.

Napoleon Ernest Fontaine was born on June 2, 1916, the son of Henry J. and DeLaura (Bruneau) Fontaine in Polk County. On June 2, 1939, he married Vivian Ostgarden in Crookston. The couple had three sons. Ernest drove big machines for a construction company in Greenland, at missile sites in North Dakota and all over Minnesota. He managed a gas station in Grand Rapids and also worked in the mines on the Iron Range. He enjoyed his work and telling stories about his work days. He also enjoyed his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian; sons, Sheldon (Judy) of Gordon, Wisc., Clinton (Carol) of Phoenix, Ariz. and Rodney (Bonnie) of Kenyon; one sister, Pearl Laniel of Brooks; two grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and step-children.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Arnie, Leonard and Virgil. A00003B2002SP18
