V. Folden, 86
Fargo,
N.D. - Edward V. Folden, 86, died Tuesday,
August 28, 2001 at Villa Maria Nursing Home in
Fargo, N.D.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, September 1, at 2 p.m.
at Community Alliance Church in Detroit Lakes with
Rev. Jerry Dent and Larue Goetz officiating.
Special music was provided by Homespun, Dean Nelson
and Jerry Dent. Casketbearers were Kurt
Svendsgaard, Dan Miller, Barry Schroeder, Ken
Blanchard, Joe Miller and Jerry Kiedrowski.
Interment was in Folden Cemetery in Newfolden with
West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes in charge
of the arrangements.
Edward
V. Folden was born on March 24, 1915 in Holt, the
son of Theodore and Amelia (Berg) Folden. He grew
up and attended school in Newfolden and farmed the
family homestead until he went to Trinity Seminary
in Minneapolis. After he left the seminary, Edward
became a tent evangelist and then started an
evangelical free church in Spring Grove.
While
in Spring Grove, he met Genevieve Trebus, and they
were married on July 30, 1941. The couple moved to
the East Coast and served several churches in the
Boston area. In the 1950s and 1960s, they lived in
several midwestern locations, including
Cooperstown, N.D., Park River, N.D., Strathcona and
Thief River Falls. Edward and Genevieve were
involved with founding Steer Inc., which involves
raising cattle for missions. Steer Inc. was started
in Park River, N.D. and now has offices in
Bismarck, N.D. The couple lived in Detroit Lakes
from 1965 to 1972. Genevieve died on January 10,
1991. On October 17, 1992, Edward married Dorcas
Wathne in Cooperstown, N.D.
Survivors
include his wife, Dorcas Folden; two sons, Douglas
(Jennifer) Folden of Moorhead and David (Connie)
Folden of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Farol (Paul)
Bontrop of Seattle; four grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alma Johnson in
Connecticut.
Edward
was preceded in death by his first wife, Genevieve;
his parents; a son in infancy; a daughter, Laurie
Jean; a granddaughter; and 10 siblings.
