Thief
River Falls - Gena Fjeld, 88, died on Monday,
February 23, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center, in
Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services were held Saturday,
Feb. 28, 2004 at Evangelical Free Church in Thief
River Falls, with Rev. Jim Howard officiating.
Interment was held at Ekelund Cemetery in
Highlanding Township of Pennington County.
Gena
Norine Dahlen was born on September 11, 1915 in
Reiner Township of Pennington County, the daughter
of John and Charlotte (Johnson) Dahlen. She was
baptized and confirmed at Ekelund Lutheran Church
and attended rural school and grew to adulthood in
Pennington County.
Gena
was united in marriage to Melvin Fjeld on March 21,
1932. The couple made their home and farmed in the
Goodridge area until moving into Thief River Falls
in 1977. Melvin died on July 21, 1987 and Gena
continued to live in Rocksbury Township, near Thief
River Falls. She moved into CNC Nursing Home in
April of 2003 and into Valley Home on October 31,
2003.
Gena
had been an active member of the Ekelund Lutheran
Church in Goodridge and currently at the
Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls, where
she had been a member since 1978. Gena's church and
her religion were very important to her.
She
was a Stanley Dealer for over 45 years and was a
group leader and had many sales representatives
under her. Gena had won many honors and awards
while working with the Stanley Company. The Stanley
Company was a very important part of Gena's life.
She also worked with Green Thumb and had 27 college
students rent rooms from her over the years.
Gena
is survived by three daughters: Irene Roisland of
Thief River Falls, Marlys (Alvin) Westerlund of
Waukegan, Ill. and Beverly (Dick) Moen of Mora;
seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Ida
Frodahl of Mora, Marie Fjeld, Clara Dahlen, Olga
Dahlen, and Willa Prestegaard, all of Thief River
Falls, and Ester Fjeld of Vancouver, Wash.; and
several nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her
parents; two daughters: Darlene and Doris; three
sons: Gordon, Milton and an infant boy; two
grandsons; son-in law, Frank Roisland; six sisters:
Clara Larson, Ethel Dahlen, Mayme in infancy,
Myrtle Ouren, Mayme Kulseth, and Nina Stucy; and
three brothers: Clarence Dahlen, Elmer Dahlen and
