Louise Fisher, 85

Thief River Falls - Louise Fisher, 85, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Saturday, October 5 at St. Bernard's Fisher, Louise Catholic Church with Rev. Tim McGee officiating. Laura Brickson was the organist and Jane Mattson was the cantor. Casketbearers were Louise's children and honorary casketbearers were her grandchildren. Interment was in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Louise Mary Rolland was born on June 23, 1917, the daughter of Seraphine and Augustine (Andrieux) Rolland in Grand Plain Township of Marshall County. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith in Mavie and attended Germantown Elementary School. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1934. Following high school, she attended Bemidji State Teachers College and received her A.A. teaching degree in December 1936. Louise taught in rural schools in the Goodridge area for four years. On June 8, 1940, Louise was united in marriage to Edward Fisher at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Goodridge. The couple farmed near Goodridge until 1950 when they moved to Thief River Falls.

Louise was a devoted wife and mother who raised her ten children in the Catholic church, teaching them about love, sharing, caring and being themselves. She also passed along her love of reading, gardening, birds and flowers. When she had time, she enjoyed painting and drawing.

She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, where she was active in the Guild and Catholic Daughters. Louise was very instrumental in developing the Falls Day Activities Center (DAC) in Thief River Falls and served on the board for the Falls DAC and the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) for many years.

Survivors include nine children, James (Janet) Fisher of Thief River Falls, Mary Lou (Harold) Jasken of Alexandria, Gene (Sheila Kendro) Fischer of San Diego, Calif., Veronica Fisher of Asheville, N.C., Marty Fisher of San Diego, Calif., Ann Marie (Douglas Kreider) Fisher of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Virginia (John Canfield) Fisher of Comptche, Calif., Jerry (Peg Edel) Fisher of San Diego, Calif., and Judith Mary Fisher of Thief River Falls; ten grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Rubash of New Lisbon, Wisc.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; a daughter, Florence Ann; a son, Cyril; sisters, Lucy Rolland and Augustine Rolland; brother, Marcel Rolland; daughter-in-law, Beverly Fisher; brother-in-law, Gust Rubash; and a grandson.
