Roland Erickson, 79

Fargo, N.D. - Roland Erickson, 79, died Friday, October 26, 2001 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services were held in Fargo.

Roland Erickson was born on April 19, 1922 at Fertile, the son of Robert and Clara Erickson. He attended school in Fertile, graduating from Fertile High School in 1940. During the war, he was employed in manufacturing in Richmond, Calif. and Glendale, Calif. He returned to Minnesota in 1945.

During the time Roland resided in Thief River Falls, he was employed at C. Gustafson & Sons, Inc. and Union State Bank. He spend most of his professional career as an employee of the United States Department of Agriculture finishing his career as a program specialist with the ASCS in the North Dakota state office in Fargo.

On August 19, 1953, Roland was united in marriage to Patricia Chaput at Thief River Falls. They moved to Langdon, N.D. and resided there until 1966 when they moved to Rugby, N.D. In 1984, Roland, Patricia and their family moved to Fargo.

Survivors include a daughter, Robyn (Mark) Gonitzke of Damascus, Md.; six sons, Mark (Marlene) Erickson of St. Paul, Ralph (Michele) Erickson of Fargo, Paul (Katie) Erickson of Potomac, Md., Craig (Gwyn) Erickson of Fargo, Steven (Vera) Erickson of Shorewood, Ill., and John (Jill) Erickson of Grand Forks, N.D.; a brother, Walter (Marian) Erickson of Los Osos, Calif.; and 18 grandchildren.

Roland was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a sister, Lily Gustafson; a brother, Reynold Erickson; and a grandson.
