Thief
River Falls - Gene Englund, 73, died Tuesday,
December 25, 2001 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red
Lake Falls.
Funeral
services were held at 2
p.m.
on Saturday, December 29, at Green Funeral Home in
Thief River Falls with Rev. Robert Dahlen
officiating. Diane Johnson was the organist and
soloist. Casketbearers were Jeff Dahlen, Dave
Dahlen, Steve Dahlen, Kelly Dahlen, Kevin Dahlen
and Joel Dahlen. Honorary casketbearers were Gordon
and June Thrane. Interment was in Greenwood
Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Gene
Clayton Englund was born on August 26, 1928 in
Karlstad, the son of Nimrod and Nora (Hams)
Englund. He attended school in Karlstad and worked
on the family farm.
In
1949, Gene married Betty Ann Magnuson.
He
worked for Glidden Farms in Hallock for 19 years as
well as several other farmers. Gene also worked in
maintenance at Hardee's in Thief River Falls for
six-and-one-half years until his retirement.
Following retirement, he worked at River Road
Casino for several years.
On
Decembere 27, 1986, Gene was united in marriage to
Ella Dahlen at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River
Falls.
He
was a member of the Eagles Club in Thief River
Falls.
Gene
enjoyed gardening and working with flowers, and in
1993, he and Ella won Thief River Falls' Home
Beautification Award. He also enjoyed birdwatching,
hunting, sightseeing trips through the countryside
with Ella and being entertained by his
granddaughter, Erin.
Survivors
include his wife, Ella of Thief River Falls; a
daughter, Carol (Mike) Rooker of Everett, Wash.;
two sons, Jim (Joyce) Englund of Brooklyn Center
and Johnny Lee Englund of Everett, Wash.; Ella's
children, Elaine (David) Roehl of Bloomington,
David (Gayle) Dahlen of Goodridge, Jeff Dahlen of
Goodridge, Joel (Rosalee) Dahlen of Thief River
Falls, Carolyn (Scott) Pahlen of Roosevelt, Kelly
(Brenda) Dahlen of Goodridge, Kevin (special friend
Kathy Opdahl) Dahlen of Thief River Falls, Donna
(fiance Rob Endly) Dahlen of Bloomington, Leah
(Mike) Nelson of Madison, Wisc. and Steven (Cammie)
Dahlen of Thief River Falls; four grandchildren;
Ella's 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
Ella's great-granddaughter; five brothers, Louis
(Lorraine), Charles and James (Connie), all of
Karlstad, Larry (Evelyn) of Anchorage, Alaska and
Richard (Cathy) of Lake Bronson; and many nieces
and nephews.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in
infancy and three brothers, Rodney, Gary and
Jackie.
