Severt Engevik, 87

St. Paul - Severt Engevik, 87, died Friday, June 29, 2001 at Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 6, at Holcomb-Henry-Boom North Chapel in Shoreview. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis with Holcomb-Henry-Boom Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Severt Edward Engevik was born on August 21, 1913, at his parents' home in Veldt township of Marshall county, the son of Elias E. and Josephine (Droen) Engevik. He attended elementary school at a country school near Gatzke and two years of high school at the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston. He graduated from Middle River High School in 1934. From 1936 to 1942, Severt managed Cities Service Gas Station in Gatzke. In 1942, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He took is basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri before being transferred to Randolph Field in San Antonio, Texas where he was a link trainer instructor for most of the remainder of the war. After being discharged in 1945, he returned to Gatzke where he worked as a rural mail carrier for a few years. Severt then moved to Minneapolis where he was in real estate sales and also worked for the Minneapolis Public Works Department.

On July 8, 1980, he married Ruth Craig, and the couple lived in the Mora area during retirement.

During his last years, he resided at Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul with his nieces, Carol Kelsey and Judy Rakestraw providing his primary support.

Severt is survived by two brothers, Rueben (DeLoris) and Bernard (Blanche); a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; a brother, Ervin; and three sisters, Annette Nornes, Evelyn Moore and Alice Engevik.
