E. Harriet Engen, 80

Thief River Falls - E. Harriet Engen, 80, died Saturday, August 25, 2001 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Engen Obit

Funeral services were held Monday, August 27, at 2 p.m. at Abundant Life Free Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Wesley Langaas officiating. Bev Kays was the organist, and the soloist was Lois Anderson. Casketbearers were Michael Lorenson, Dennis Rantanen, LeMar Rantanen, Kenny Halvorson, Ryan Strandberg and Robert Tabery. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls with Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

E. Harriet Strandberg was born on December 19, 1920 in West Valley township of Marshall county, the daughter of Harry J. and Anna O. (Larson) Strandberg. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and attended school in West Valley township.

On June 20, 1943, Harriet was united in marriage to Edwin Harold Engen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls, and through the years, Harriet was employed by several businesses, including Model Laundry, Land O'Lakes and as a waitress at the VFW. Edwin died on November 8, 1985.

Harriet was a member of Abundant Life Free Lutheran Church and a life member of the auxiliaries of the American Legion, Eagles and VFW.

Survivors include four sisters, Mable Rantanen of Thief River Falls, Daphne (Bernard) Tabery of Crystal, Vinette "Vi" Strandberg of Lakewood, Colo. and LuAnn (Charles) Chaplinski of Middle River; several aunts and an uncle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harriet was preceded in death by her husband; fiance, Robert Ortloff on May 31, 1998; parents; three brothers, Orville Strandberg, Medill Strandberg and Kermit Strandberg; an aunt; several uncles; and two nephews. A00003B2001AG29
