Clearbrook
- Irene Elvira Engebretsen, 89, of Clearbrook,
died Saturday, June 5 at North Country Regional
Hospital in Bemidji.
Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 9
at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook,
with the Rev. Dan Bowman officiating. Visitation
will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday
at the church. Interment will be at Silver Creek
Cemetery in Clearbrook.
Irene was
born May 9, 1915 in Itasca Township, Clearwater
Co., the daughter of John and Martha (Mattson)
Wicken. She was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith and a member of Good Shepherd
Lutheran Church.
She
married Hans Engebretsen in 1937. They lived in
Hovland for two years after which they worked at a
resort in Itasca Park. They moved to Clearbrook in
1941 and farmed for five years then moved to town
in Clearbrook in 1946 and resided there since.
She
worked for 12 years at Good Samaritan Center while
working there she also was 2nd Cook for 3 years at
the Clearbrook Public Schools. She was Site Manager
for 12 years at the Clearbrook Senior Center and
retired in 1987. She and Hans were also custodians
for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for 20 years. She
enjoyed playing her guitar, gardening, sewing,
reading, playing cards and loved being with her
grandchildren.
Survivors
include her children, Chris (Joan) Engebretsen of
Erskine, Eileen (Russell) Rhen of Thief River
Falls; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; husband;
brothers, Emil, Victor, Ted and Algot Wicken;
sisters, Ida and Tillie Wicken, Jenny Lundin and
