Pearl Elseth, 91

Grand Forks, N.D. - Pearl Elseth, 91, formerly of Newfolden, died Friday, January 18, 2002 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, N.D. Elseth Obit

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 21, at Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden with Rev. Gary Barrett officiating. Judy Hogberg as the organist, and Vanessa Anderson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Chad Stone, Brad Stone, Cindy Stone, Matt Gust, Ian Gust and Jim Whitcomb. Honorary casketbearers were Megan Uribe and Sara Whitcomb. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden with Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Pearl Alice Peterson was born on December 18, 1910 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Carl Henning Peterson and Lina (Willemsen) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Free Church in Newfolden and attended Newfolden School.

On June 10, 1939, Pearl was united in marriage to Gordon Lawrence Elseth. The couple made their home in Newfolden until 1942 when they moved to Anoka. In 1947, they returned to Newfolden where they owned and operated Newfolden Mercantile. The couple purchased an old school house that they remodeled into a home. For 15 years, Pearl and Gordon wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz. Gordon died n April 13, 1992.

Pearl was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and its Ladies Aid.

She enjoyed baking and sharing the brownies she made and coffee with visitors.

Survivors include a daughter, Lois (Daniel) Gust of Grand Forks; a son, Jim (Barbara) Elseth of Paynesville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Pearl was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gladys Eide.
