Thief
River Falls - Irene Ellingson, 87, died on
Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center in
Thief River Falls.
Funeral
services will be held at
10
a.m. on Thursday, July 10 at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Thief River Falls with the Rev. Tim Bauer
and the Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating.
Casketbearers will be Irene's grandchildren.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief
River Falls. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8
p.m. on Wednesday at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home
in Thief River Falls with a 7 p.m. Eastern Star
service. Visitation will also be held for one hour
prior to services at the church on
Thursday.
Irene
Gladys Halvorson was born in Highlanding Township
on November 20, 1915, the daughter of Albert and
Alma (Aleckson) Halvorson. She was baptized and
confirmed at the Goodridge Lutheran Church. She
grew up and attended Goodridge Elementary and
Goodridge High School.
On
July 10, 1932, Irene was united in marriage to Leo
Ervin Ellingson. The couple lived on the farm where
Leo farmed and was employed in road construction.
Irene and Leo also had a grocery store in Goodridge
for 20 years. Irene worked for the U.S. Post
Office, both in Goodridge and Thief River Falls,
for 23 years, retiring in 1975. In 1980, she moved
to Thief River Falls.
She
was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Noon
Lioness, BPO Does #65, and was a member of the
Eastern Star for 50 years. She volunteered at the
hospital and delivered Meals on Wheels in Thief
River Falls. She enjoyed playing cards, especially
bridge, visiting with friends, traveling, and
thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her
family.
Survivors
include five children, Diana (Lyn) Josephson of
Thief River Falls, Arlen (Sharon) of Sun City,
Ariz., Ron (Lynn) of Minden, Nev., Larry of
Anchorage, Alaska, and Lana (Neal) Sandahl of Thief
River Falls; nine grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; three great
great-grandchildren; and her special friend,
Marlene Hanson.
Irene
was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; two
granddaughters; one grandson; a great-grandson; her
parents; a sister, Ethel Kaushagen; and three
brothers, Hiram, Alvin and Gordon.
