Ellingson_CarolThief River Falls - Carol Jean Ellingson, 67, died on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Thief River Falls, with Reverend Luther Peterson officiating. Casket bearers included Evan Thompson, Erik Thompson, Trevor Jarshaw, Jamie Weigel, Keith Moen and Corey Moen. Interment was held in Lanstad Cemetery of Sanders Township in Pennington County.

Carol Jean Ewing was born on November 17, 1936 in Crookston, the daughter of Urban and Mae (Johnstad) Ewing. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and attended school in Crookston, graduating from Northwest School of Agriculture. Following High School Carol attended Concordia College in Moorhead for one year.

Carol was united in marriage to Charles Ellingson on May 5, 1956 in Newfolden. The couple made their home in Karlstad for one and one-half years and then moved to Thief River Falls, where they lived until 1969. Carol and Charles moved to Anoka where they resided until 1974, then they returned to Thief River Falls, and have resided here since. Carol was a homemaker. She started doing upholstering while living in Anoka and also at their farm in Thief River Falls. In 1987 she began working in the Sewing Department at Arctic.

Carol's family was always first in her life. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, bird watching with Charles and word games. She loved to play solitaire on her hand held electronic game.

She was a member of Oak Ridge Lutheran Church, where she made many quilts with the ladies at the church. Carol made a quilt for each of her children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Charles of Thief River Falls; five children, Connie Ellingson of Salol, Pattie (Mike) Jarshaw of Newfolden, Cathie (Mike) Thompson of Zimmerman, Kent (Stacey) of Crookston, and Troy (Tiffani) of Thief River Falls; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda (Michael) Strapp of Forest Lake, and Faye (Robert) Brewer of Cottage Grove; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Kenneth Ewing.
