Leona Frances Efta, 74

Greenbush - Leona F. Efta, 74, died on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

Funeral services were held on leona efta Monday, Feb. 9, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leo, with Father Don Braukmann and Father Eugene Wesely officiating. Casket bearers included Deven Efta, Dayne Efta, John Langaas, Vern Langaas, Dave Koski, Lee Blavat and Albin Pulczinski. Interment was held at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Leo.

Leona Frances Efta, the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Mlodzik) Kalka, was born on June 4, 1929 in Auburn, N.D. She grew to womanhood in the Drayton and Bowesmont, N.D. communities, graduating from Drayton High School in 1948. Leona was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She worked as an assistant to Dr. Waldron at the Drayton Clinic for several years, and later taught for 6 months, in a rural school near Hamilton, ND.

On June 15, 1954, Leona was united in marriage to Edward Efta at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Drayton. Since their marriage, the couple has farmed in Barto Township of Roseau Co., north of Greenbush. She helped with planting and harvesting on the farm over the years. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church of Leo and presently of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Greenbush and of both the Holy Rosary Society of Leo and St. Ann's Sodality of Greenbush. Also, she was a member of the Greenbush American Legion Auxiliary for many years.

Leona was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing and sewing, and especially spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Ed; one son, Myles (Sandy) of Greenbush; three daughters: Renee (David) Koski of Audubon, Debra Efta of Fargo, N.D. and Mary (Vern) Langaas of Greenbush; seven grandchildren; three brothers: Ray (Mary) of Ileon, N.Y., Chester (Donna) and Laddie (Dorothy), both of Drayton; one sister, Zenobia Smith of Austin, Texas; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, John, in 1974. A00003B2004FB11
