Myrtle Dyrud, 90

Thief River Falls - Myrtle Dyrud, 90, formerly of Newfolden, died Sunday, February 11, 2001 at her home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2001 at Westaker Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Rev. Peter Ward officiating. Jocelyn Dyrud will be the pianist, and the vocalist will be Lara Dyrud-MacLean. Special music will be presented by the Goethe family. Myrtle's grandchildren will also present a musical selection and serve as casketbearers. Anna Dyrud will play the trumpet. Rev. LeRoy Flickinger will read from Scripture. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Myrtle Helene Rasmussen was born on August 5, 1910 in McHenry, N.D., the daughter of Mons and Martha (Fitjar) Rasmussen. She grew up on the family farm and attended elementary school in rural McHenry. In 1931, she graduated from Oak Grove High School in Fargo, N.D. Until 1935, she worked as a practical nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Harvey, N.D.

On December 21, 1935, Myrtle was united in marriage to Harvey Paul Dyrud at her parent's home near McHenry. In April of 1936, the couple moved to rural Newfolden where they lived and farmed for 60 years. In 1996, the moved to Thief River Falls. Harvey died in 1998.

Myrtle was active in Women's Mission fellowship and ladies aid.

She enjoyed reading the Bible, nature, farming, needlework, entertaining and corresponding with friends and relatives throughout the world.

Myrtle is survived by seven sons, Harlan (Darlene) of Grand Forks, N.D., Philip (Avis) of Newfolden, Keith (Grace), David (Arlene) and Jonathan (Anh Ngoc), all of St. Paul, Clifford (Alva) of Moorhead and Dwight (Christine) of Minneapolis; four daughters, Faythe (Gordon) Thureen of East Grand Forks, Helene McCauley of Thief River Falls, Gracia (Robert) Blees of Tega Cay, S.C. and Rachel (Norman) Ferguson of Taos, N.M.; 35 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter, Mavis; her parents; a daughter-in-law, Sharon; a sister, Ruth; and three brothers, Roy, Rev. Lawrence and Martin Rasmussen. A00003B2000FB14
