Grygla - Carl Dyrseth, 87, died on Friday, April 4, 2003 at his home in rural Grygla.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 11 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with the Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Joy Nordby will be the organist. Casketbearers will be Mark Birchem, Jim Joynes, Bill Kruger, Paul Kluempke, Cameron Dyrseth, Steve Conely and Mike Conely. Honorary casketbearers will be Ole Nesland, Knute Nesland, Leland Thomas, Donald Thomas, Ralph Smith, Doug Nordby, Larry Nordby and David Saurdiff. Interment will be in Valle Cemetery in Benville Township of Beltrami County. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 10 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Carl Leonard Dyrseth was born on October 28, 1915, the son of Ole and Thora (Mattison) Dyrseth, in Benville Township. He was raised from infancy by his foster parents, John and Boletta Haugen. He attended school in Benville Township and worked on the family farm.

On July 31, 1946, he married Dorothy Clausen in Gatzke. Following their marriage, they purchased the family farm, which Carl continued to operate until 1999, when he retired. In addition to farming, Carl worked for Gladen Pulp Company at Beltrami Island for many years. He also worked in various departments, including the machine shop at Arctic Enterprises, from 1966 to 1980.

Carl was baptized and confirmed at Valle Lutheran Church of Grygla, and served as a deacon. He became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, following the merger of the parishes. He also served as a supervisor on the Benville Township Board for many years. He enjoyed hunting, watching sports, and outdoor activities. He was also an avid reader of books on American history and many other subjects.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia (Charles) Kettleson of Maplewood, and Linda (David) Ulrich of Red Lake Falls; a son, John (Karen) of Modesto, Calif.; a daughter-in-law; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Jerry; a grandson; his parents; his foster parents; brothers, Olai, Clarence, Ingvald and Melvin; sister, Dena and Myrtle; and a son-in-law.
