DuRose, 82
Winger
- William DuRose, 82, of Winger, passed away on
Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003 at the Fair Meadow Nursing
Home in Fertile. Funeral services
were
held on Friday Nov. 7, at Union Lake Free Lutheran
Church in rural Winger, with the Rev. Wes Johanson
officiating. Interment was held in the church
cemetery.
William
was born on July 11, 1921, in Duluth. He grew up
and attended school in that area.
William
was united in marriage to Alice Nelson on October
23, 1942. After their wedding they lived and worked
in Washington, D.C.
In
January of 1943 William was inducted into the
United States Army. He served his country as a
member of the United States Army with most of his
service time spent in London. He received his
Honorable Discharge on December 4, 1945.
William
worked for Sears in Grand Forks, N.D., as a sales
clerk. Then he was hired as manager of the Sears
store in Sydney, Mont., He also served as manager
at their store in Williston, N.D. and International
Falls. He retired in 1972 because of health
problems. He and Alice moved to Winger, and spent
many winters in the south.
William
enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, amateur radio
operating, and visiting family and friends. He
enjoyed woodworking and built beautiful clocks. He
gave many of them as gifts to his family and
friends.
William
was a member of AAL (Aid Association for
Lutherans), Lutheran Brotherhood, V.F.W. and the
American Legion. He was a member of Union Lake Free
Lutheran Church and served as Deacon and Trustee
for many years. He was a Sunday School teacher
there when his children were growing up.
Survivors
include Alice, his wife and best friend of 61
years; one daughter, Anitra (Paul) Ofstedal of
Fertile; three sons, Edwin (Grace) of Stanchfield,
Sherman of Thief River Falls, and James (Julie) of
Kalamazoo, Mich.; seven grandchildren, and five
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irene
Nordlund of Duluth, and Lila (Wallace) Soderstrom
of Fla.
He
was preceded in death by two brothers and one
sister.
