Stanley Donarski, 74

Thief River Falls - Stanley Donarski, 74, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis. Donarski obit

Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, September 21, at 2 p.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Tim McGee and Father John Kleinwachter presiding. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793. Interment was in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Stanley Joseph Donarski was born on July 26, 1927 in Wright Township of Marshall County, the son of Joseph and Agnes (Adamski) Donarski. He was baptized and confirmed at Assumption Catholic Church in Florian and attended Lindstrom Country School.

On March 2, 1946, Stanley entered the United States Army. He attained the rank of PFC and attended the 8th Army Automotive Maintenance School in Fuchinobe Honshu, Japan during the Army occupation of Japan during World War II. He was honorably discharged on August 28, 1947 at Fort Lawton, Wash.

On April 19, 1955, Stanley was united in marriage to Audrey Elaine Kleinwachter in Strandquist. The couple made their home on the family farm in Smiley Township of Pennington County, raising small grain and many farm animals. Audrey died on May 15, 1997.

He was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church of Florian until 1955 when he became a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls.

Stanley enjoyed spending time with his family and at the lake, fishing, driving an ATV, vegetable gardening, raising strawberries and apples and watching wildlife.

Survivors include five daughters, Bernadette (Jerry) Raguse of Harwood, N.D., Cathy Beverford of Oxnard, Calif., Lucy (Lonnie) Schermerhorn of Roy, Wash. and Ann (Wayne) Swenson and Diana Donarski, both of Thief River Falls; six sons, Wendell of Thief River Falls, Joe (Cammie) of Stanwood, Wash., John (Jennifer) of Harvey, N.D., David (Camela) of Manassas, Va., Marc of Big Lake and Paul of Thief River Falls; 18 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; six siblings, Conrad (Mary Ann) Donarski of Viking, Tess Morkassel of Ada, Mary Borowicz of Argyle, Laurie Donarski of Grand Forks, N.D., Katherine Karpen of Inver Grove Heights and Bernard (Mary Lee) Donarski of Oscala, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother, Raymond Donarski.
