George Derosier, 69

Red Lake Falls - George Derosier, 69, died Saturday, February 17, 2001 at his home in Terrebonne township near Red Lake Falls.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Larry Wieseler officiating. Concelebrants will be Father Tim Bushy and Father Gerry Noeson. Kathie Knott will be the organist, and special music will be provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Honorary casketbearers will be members of Knights of Columbus. Casketbearers will be Gregory Derosier, Daniel Derosier, Timothy Derosier, Terence Derosier, Jaime Derosier and Maurice Derosier. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery at Terrebonne.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services on Saturday. Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

George Anthony Derosier was born on August 23, 1931 at his farm home in Terrebonne township, the son of Ferment and Evelyn (Paradis) Derosier. He grew up on the family farm and attended Beau Gerlot grade school and St. John's Prep School. He graduated from Moorhead State University with a bachelor of science in education. George served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict.

Most of his life was spent on the family homestead, a century farm in Terrebonne township. During his 23-year teaching career, George taught at Brooks Elementary, Hughes Elementary and St. Joseph's Elementary at Red Lake Falls.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish in Terrebonne, serving on its council, working as a lay minister and lector, participating in the choir and being active in a number of other church related ministries. George was a 29-year member of Knight of Columbus and served as its financial secretary. He was also active in politics and served as a Red Lake County Commissioner for more than four years.

He enjoyed farming, yard work, raising alfalfa and leaf-cutter bees, communicating via e-mail, riding "The Mule," hunting with his family and playing with his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife of 46 years, JoAnn (Schmitz) Derosier; a brother, Maurice Derosier of Red Lake Falls; two sisters, Madonna Balmer of Tacoma, Wash. and Lucille Biever of Spanaway, Wash.; five sons, Gregory (Rosann) of Eldersburg, Md., Daniel (Sandra) Blaine, Timothy (Rachel) Colorado Springs, Colo., Terence (Mary) of North St. Paul and Jaime (Laura) of rural Red Lake Falls; 21 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
