Lucille Demarais, 85

Red Lake Falls - Lucille B. Demarais, 85, died Monday, June 4, 2001 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.

Mass of Christian burial was Demarais Obit held on Monday, June 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy officiating. Special music was provided by St. Joseph's Church Choir. Lucille's granddaughters served as casketbearers. Interment was in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Gentilly with Johnson Funeral Service of Red Lake Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Lucille Beatrice Vaudrin was born on October 8, 1915 in near Gentilly in Polk county, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Derosier) Vaudrin. She grew up near Gentilly where she attended a rural school. Lucille was baptized in Gentilly.

On November 4, 1937, she was united in marriage to William Demarais at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gentilly. The couple lived and farmed in Gentilly township until 1980 when they retired and moved into Red Lake Falls. Bill died on September 29, 1999. Lucille had been a resident of Hillcrest Nursing Home since March 10, 1998.

She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Lucille was a member of St. Anne's Society, Senior Citizens and Catholic Daughters.

She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play baseball and hockey and had been dubbed the "Hockey Grandma." Lucille also enjoyed needlework, quilting, gardening and birdwatching and was known for the bread and chocolate chip cookies she baked.

Survivors include seven daughters, Dee Greskowiak of St. Paul, Luella (Duane) Greskowiak of Anoka, Janet (Hank) Knott of Monticello, Theresa (Rick) Ricketts of Red Lake Falls, Audrey (Denny) Roy of Dilworth, Celeste (Tom) Morris of Crookston and Jeaneanne Demarais of Missoula, Mont.; three sons, Roman (Pauline) Demarais of Bloomington, James (Christine) Demarais of Red Lake Falls and Vern (Marlys) Demarais of Crookston; a son-in-law, Tim Audette of Wyoming, Minn.; 34 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Maygra of Yakima, Wash., Irene Skelly of Tacoma, Wash. and Jeanette (Russell) Glass of Crookston; and two brothers, Delbert (Verna) Vaudrin and Clarence "Frenchie" (Marlys) Vaudrin, both of Crookston.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two daughters, Margaret Audette and Cynthia Demarais. A00003B2001JN13
